IBM Softlayer and Chicago Made at the SXSW Trade Show

South by Southwest is an institution in Austin, TX. It first came to life as a little music festival back in 1987. Now, almost 30 years later, the event has grown exponentially, covering three overlapping conventions under the same umbrella: music, film, and digital culture.

All three facets of the festival converge during the four days of the SXSW Trade Show, and the exhibitors reflect that congruence. It’s not unusual to find displays from The New York Times, NASA, and the Price is Right (along with a giant spin wheel, of course!) at the same gathering, a mixture that reflects the truly eclectic nature of all things SXSW.

The 2015 South by Southwest Interactive Innovation Awards

The yearly South by Southwest festival (SXSW), held in Austin, TX, gives innovators in many different fields the chance to shine among an appreciative crowd of their peers. The Music, Film, and Interactive branches of the festival all get upswept in the current of upcoming, exciting, and mind-bending projects. But some of those projects have the capacity to effect real social change more than others. That's where the SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards come in.

re:3D's GIGABOT Delivers Cutting Edge Technology at SXSW 2013

Bringing power back to the people is Austin start-up company re:3D and their newest product Gigabot: one of the first low-cost, industrial strength, large format 3D printers, making it available to both small businesses and emerging worldwide markets. What can you make with a 3D printer, you ask? Well, pretty much anything. From jewelry to footwear, prototypes for the medical industries and  education and everything inbetween, a 3D printer can do it all (almost). And with the new lower cost Gigabot, we're betting we're about to see a whole lot more. Already being referred to as 'a manufacturer's worst nightmare', the Gigabot is the beginning of a new world of possibilities for the entrepreneurial inclined. It only makes sense, then, that they are paired with Start-Up Chile, a program of the Chilean Government that attracts world-class early stage entrepreneurs to start their businesses in Chile.
